Disc Dryer for Insect Meal & Protein Lines

Continuous rotating steam disc dryers providing massive heating surface area in a compact footprint, ideal for 24/7 industrial fishmeal, BSFL, and rendering drying.

Serves: Fishmeal & Fish Oil Insect Protein (BSFL)

Product Overview

The FMD Series Disc Dryer is an indirect steam contact dryer engineered for high-capacity fishmeal, BSFL insect meal, and animal rendering plants. Featuring a patented hidden weld-seam spindle and double-disc geometry, it provides gentle low-temperature evaporation (<95°C) to preserve protein digestibility.

Key Features

  • Industrial-grade steel structure for continuous 24/7 duty
  • PLC / HMI control options for stable process parameters
  • Designed for insect meal lines; configurable for other protein plants
  • Factory installation guidance and spare-parts support

Working Principle & Structure

The disc dryer operates under indirect steam heating (rated 0.6 MPa). Saturated steam fills the central rotor and all double-discs. Materials slowly advance at 10–12 rpm via outer pusher blades. Continuous inter-disc scrapers agitate the meal bed, evaporating moisture smoothly under a slight negative pressure draft hood.

FAQ

How does the FMD disc dryer protect protein nutritional value?
By utilizing indirect saturated steam and gentle vacuum vapor extraction, drying temperature is kept below 95°C. This avoids protein overheating, preserving digestible amino acids such as lysine, methionine, and cysteine.
What is the advantage of the hidden weld-seam design?
Traditional dryers have exposed rotor welds that wear down rapidly when rubbing against bone meal and fibrous insect presscake. Our design covers all critical seams, virtually eliminating weld failure and rotor leaks.
What is the standard delivery and manufacturing lead time for this equipment?
Standard manufacturing lead time is 45 to 60 days depending on metallurgy and capacity specifications. Rush assembly options are available for ongoing plant projects.
